This time of year is notorious for cedar pollen. When the cedar trees start showing colors of red and orange, it means pollen. I wanted to run, but allergy bouts can be really bad. But, today was going to be 75 loving degrees!
I so wanted to go out, and I really needed to get some longer runs in. So, I just decided to do it. Of all places, I picked Lime Creek Road behind my house - a.k.a Cedar Alley. Cedar trees lined the entire way. I cringed when I saw them, but continued. Those male cedar tree is the ones to blame (photo credit: susan).
By the turnaround point, I took stock of how I was feeling - and, I felt nothing in terms of allergies - yay! My feet felt like they were in need of some cushion though. The ground felt very hard. I think it's time for new shoes. The knee felt a bit sore, but not too bad.
So, I managed to do 7 miles today, plus 1 mile of walking, and now I'm at 8 miles. Not great, considering I have a 1/2 marathon at the end of the month to do. I'm still wondering if my knee will hold up. Could the knee be complaining about the shoes too? I have probably 400 miles on them now (counting runs, walks, and casual walking around).
Well, rather than keep wondering if the shoes are the culprit, I'm just going to order some new ones.....now!

Definitely new shoes. You'll be surprised how much better your knees feel - I hope!
I was thinking.. pollen? in January? where is she? I forgot for a moment our country is big!!!!
And girl, 400 miles is too much for running shoes..., so yes, go get new ones!!!
Yep, I agree that you are due for new shoes! I usually rotate between 2-3 pairs of shoes using one type of shoe for longer runs and another, lighter type of shoe for shorter runs. Shoes are much cheaper than knees.
Do you take some type of allergy medicine and still have allergy symptoms when you go outside? Sounds pretty limiting to have to be indoors when it's so nice out!
The trick to shoes isn't miles - but wear. Google a bit for how to check shoes ,but esssentially you're looking at the depth of the rubber on the back near the heal. I go about 500 miles on mine before I need to change them out (I've had a running DR. show me how to check/know).
And mid-70's? Sweet!
Hi Nice Blog . A recent development has been the appearance of a complete, sectioned human body appearing on the World Wide Web. The Visible Human Project presents transverse CT, MRI and cryosection images of two complete human cadavers, one male and one female, at an average of 1 mm intervals in Knee.
